A Day at Animal Kingdom Park

My youngest & I headed over to Disney's Animal Kingdom for an afternoon of exploring.  It was our first time seeing the Lion King in its new location.  Disney has done a wonderful job with this new addition to the Harambe Village.

We always go on the Kilimanjaro Safaris in the late afternoon. We have found that this is when feeding time tends to be and many animals are out enjoying an evening meal.  This was the first time we saw the hippos out of the water. What a sight they were!

Expedition Everest is one of my favorite roller coasters.  I enjoy the queue as much as the ride. The yellow trees were blooming in front of the ride and made quite the sight.

We decided to stop by Restaurantosaurus for dinner. I haven't had a meal here since 2002 when our family enjoyed the character breakfast. While I haven't eaten here in a while I have been inside the restaurant a few times recently to meet up with my kids.  They like to eat here because it's the only place in the Animal Kingdom where you can refill your drinks.

I wanted to stop by and get a good look at the place.  Disney does such an amazing job with theming and I really wanted to take in what they have done here.

I was surprised at how large this restaurant is.  I loved this area where the vintage camper from the outside is the seating area inside.  There are many items in here to look at. You felt like you were at a paleontologist's camp or on the set of Lost.

We stopped by during the Germany vs. Brazil World Cup match.  There were a few tables set up in this dining area. They even had a few FIFA World Cup treats for sale.

Apparently, the dining crowds here are pretty big. The Cast Member taking our order told us it's usually packed, but for some reason that night it wasn't.

I love all the little details!

The two of us ordered a couple of kids meals. CK got the Corn Dog Nuggets and I got the Cheeseburger. It took a while for our food because we were told they make them order, but once I got my burger doesn't appear that they had just made it.  Luckily there is a toppings bar and I was able to add sautéed onions and mushrooms to my cheeseburger and make it a bit more appealing.

They do have an Angus Bacon Cheeseburger and Black Bean Burger on the menu, but I wanted something a bit smaller.  Maybe next time I'll try the Chicken BLT Salad.

The kids' meal comes in a sand pail with a shovel.  We gave ours away to a family sitting next to us since we had little use for it. A cute idea, but not sure how practical at a theme park.

I did get a Safari Amber. I'm pretty sure the other option was Bud, and Safari Amber is even cutting it for me. Some day there will be good beer at the Animal Kingdom.

I love coming to the Animal Kingdom in the late afternoon.  The park empties out a bit and the sights are a visual delight. When I visit late in the afternoon I always try to catch a view of the sunset over on the bridge connecting Asia and Dinoland. It's a beautiful place to take in the view and enjoy the Animal Kingdom.
