The Public House Orlando

When I first started getting into craft beer a couple of years ago I was surprised to find out how Orlando was lacking in options. I was use to having a variety breweries and brewpubs to choose from. Then I soon realized that while more would be nice we had some really good options here in Central Florida.
One local bar that I discovered last fall was the Public House off of University out by UCF. This local bar just opened in 2013. While it’s out by the University it’s not your usual “college” bar. This space has a nice relaxing feel where those over 21 range in age from college kids to professors.

The Public House has a nice bar with a couple of tv’s above it showing the games of the day. You will find a nice display of bottled beers along with about 25 draft beers to choose from. Along with a great selection of craft beers you will find wines and a full bar as well.

The Public House is looking to expand into the empty lawn space next door. While it is currently being used as a smoking patio and a place to enjoy corn hole, they’d like to build a beer garden in its place. There’s even talk of putting up a screen to host movie nights.
While they don’t serve food in the bar you are welcome to bring in food from area restaurants. They have a binder with some menus. A nice bonus is the new 4 Rivers Smokehouse opened up across the way.

My first visit to the Public House was when they were hosting a
Terrapin Tap Take Over. Hubs and I met up with a few Lady Crafters and their spouses for a night of fun tasting specialty beers. I’ll never forget how amazing the Cinnamon Roll’d Wake-n-Bake tasted. It tasted like a cinnamon roll and coffee combined with the most wonderful aroma.

My next visit to the Public House was during their 420 event. Hubs and I met up with The Hoppy Couple. This was an afternoon of fun. Brian the
Lagunitas beer rep was in for the event, handing out Lagunitas swag and serving up some local pizza from Lazy Moon. Brian even brought in cupcakes from Bees Knees made with Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout. The beer highlight for the evening was Waldo’s Special. This limited addition double IPA was filled with hoppy goodness.

Check out The Public House on Facebook and keep up to date on the events they have going on at the bar. Along with tap takeovers they have live entertainment. You can keep up with the current beers on tap where they have the up to date menu listed on their website.
The Public House is the spot to enjoy good beers with friends in a relaxing welcoming environment.

Exploring Walt Disney World with Visits to Epcot, the Magic Kingdom and Disney's Boardwalk

I enjoyed an evening at Walt Disney World with Bryan and our youngest daughter CK. We were there for about five hours and while I was hoping all my kiddos would join us, I was happy we even got one to tag along. We started and ended our night at the Boardwalk. We made our way over to Epcot where we grabbed a bite for dinner and then took the monorail to the Magic Kingdom.

We did a few rides and then hopped on the bus back to the Boardwalk where we enjoyed a beer and a nice stroll before heading home.

4 Rivers Smokehouse at UCF

When we moved here three years ago I had heard that 4 Rivers Smokehouse was one of the local favorites. I remember driving down Fairbanks for the first time and seeing this line of people waiting outside of their original location. I had never seen folks waiting in line for food!

We finally made it to 4 Rivers and being new to the area I really didn’t know what to get, so I went with a pulled pork sandwich. Bryan and I were enjoying our meal when John Rivers came over and asked us how our meal was. When he found out we didn’t have the brisket he went to the kitchen and brought us a nice sample to enjoy. I’ve been hooked ever since.

While the newer Winter Park location is my 4 Rivers location I am happy to see them popping up across Central Florida. The newest 4 Rivers just opened up out at the University of Central Florida. I had an opportunity to check out the brand new restaurant for their official ribbon cutting.

Exploring the UCF Arboretum

I was headed towards the University of Central Florida recently. I thought I would take advantage of being out that way and do a little exploring. I love getting my nature fix and thought it would be nice to go check out the arboretum they have on campus.

Our visit was on a Saturday, which made it easier to get around and find the location of the Arboretum. It was a little tricky not being a student. We followed the directions for those volunteering and parked in the mulch parking lot.

We got out to do some exploring and did a quick walk in the area and then made our way over across Gemini Blvd. to where we saw the entrance to the Arboretum.

Weekly Explorations with some Local Eats in Orlando, Cider Parings, Craft Beer and a Nature Fix

I had a fun week doing some exploring around town. I started out my week with a visit to the new 4 Rivers Smokehouse that recently opened up out at UCF.  I'll have a full blog post later this week.

International Drive in Orlando

I love that International Drive is pedestrian friendly.  I enjoy getting out and exploring Orlando and getting out on foot is the best way to discover this city.  There is so much to see and do along I-Drive and wandering about can make for a fun outing.

International Drive is known as the city's "Tourist Strip".  The 11 miles of the Drive is filled with hotels, shopping, dining, entertainment, recreation and more.  When I take a visit to I-Drive I focus on the area between Sand Lake and the Convention Center.  There is a lot going on in this corridor.  Here are some places I enjoy along this section.

Stop by for some bowling with friends or grab a bite to eat and a cocktail at the bar.

The Pub Orlando

I enjoy going down to International Drive and do a little exploring. I prefer exploring International Drive between Sand Lake and the Orange County Convention Center. It is well manicured and loaded with restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Pointe Orlando is the Hub for all that.

There are many places to dine at Pointe Orlando and I like that you have such a variety. I've wanted to check out The Pub since it opened two years ago.We had a friend in town for a convention and thought The Pub would be a nice place to meet up.

The Pub has a beautiful patio that looks out to I-Drive. I like that the patio has a nice flow with the inside of the restaurant opening it up a bit. If you prefer to sit inside you will find a beautiful bar with plenty of seating or you can choose a table in the dining area.

The pub has a fun British atmosphere about the place. You'll find photos representing British royalty, football, musicians and more adorning the walls. It feels as though you've crossed the pond into a local pub.

The Pub has a nice selection of beers on draught and in bottles. You'll find a decent selection representing the UK and Ireland. You'll also find plenty of American craft on the menu as well.

If you aren't sure what beer you'd like opt for a flight of four beers of your liking.

I was intrigued with the Pour Your Own Beer set ups that they had in the restaurant. This looks like a fun option with a group of friends.

The Pub has a great Happy Hour that takes place Monday - Friday 3pm-7pm. I especially like that they include appetizers on the specials.

We decided to get a bite to eat while we were enjoying our beers. They have a nice menu with your usual bar fare.  You'll also find plenty of British bites with their British Comfort Food selections. We all opted for the Fish & Chips. Bryan and I split an order and they kindly plated it as a split selection. The Fish & Chips were so good that it may be hard for me to try other things on my next visit.

The Pub Orlando is a fun place to enjoy a tasty beer and some bites. It would be a nice place for groups, but our party of three had a good time as well. It's a nice way to get your British fix with out leaving Orlando.

Kings Bowl Orlando on I-Drive

Boy how bowling has changed since I was a kid growing up in small town Michigan. Gone are the florescent lights and now comes the bling.

Bowling is a fun activity for all and the folks at Kings in Orlando sure know how to do it up right. This "30,000 square foot entertainment venue" is located in the heart of International Drive.

Outriggers Tiki Bar & Grille in New Smyrna Beach

I was recently invited to come visit the Outriggers Tiki Bar& Grille over in New Smyrna Beach.  I have only been to New Smyrna Beach once and that was just a quick trip to the beach.

When I got the invite I knew it would be a fun way to check out the Florida beach town and enjoy some tasty eats while doing so.  A bonus for me was being able to check out the New Smyrna Beach Brewing Company during our visit as well.

Bryan and I made the hour drive to New Smyrna Beach.  I had no idea they had such charming little beach town.  After enjoying a flight of beers at the brewery we found our way over to Outriggers.  I wish I would have known how close the restaurant was from town, as this would have made a nice walk.

Weekly Explorations in Orlando including The Coop, East End Market, Cask & Larder, I-Drive and Barley & Vine ~ Plus a Look Ahead

I had a great week exploring Orlando.  I enjoyed discovering new spots and I finally got to check out the Orange County Convention Center and the Amway Center both in the same week!

My week started out great when I headed over to Park Avenue in Winter Park.  I got to stop by the 4 Rivers test kitchen and listen to a panel of local chefs.  Table Talk was a wonderful experience put together by the folks at Rockaway PR.

Let's Talk Food in Orlando with Local Top Chefs at Rockawy PR's Table Talk

I had a foodie high the other day.  I was invited to sit in on Rockaway PR Table Talk.  Rockaway PR hosted a behind the line chef chat with a handful of local chefs.  These aren't just any chefs; these folks are the ones putting Orlando on the food map.

The event was held at the 4 Rivers Test kitchen.  It was a delight to see the space where John River's wonderful creations come to life.  Not only did we get a behind the look at the kitchen, but we also got to sample dishes that are going to be on the menu at The Coop.  The Coop is John's latest restaurant.  The concept will be that of "home-style fare of the South".  The restaurant located in Winter Park is slated to open sometime in April.

The Buttermilk Biscuits with Southern Sausage Gravy will be enough to draw me in.  The Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding was amazing! Everything I sampled was delicious.

Barnie's CoffeeKitchen in Winter Park

Give me an excuse to swing over to Park Avenue and I'm there. I love the shops and eateries that line this Winter Park neighborhood. One of my favorite spots along the Avenue to enjoy some tasty food is at Barnie's CoffeeKitchen. Their courtyard patio out back is fabulous

Barnie's CoffeeKitchen in Winter Park

I had an opportunity to stop by with some fellow bloggers to sample some items off of Barnie's Spring Menu. I've enjoyed a few meals at Barnie's CoffeeKitchen. While coffee may be a big part of who they are, their food is a quality worth stopping by for as well.
