Walt Disney World's Yacht Club Resort

Our family has enjoyed many stays at Walt Disney World. When we first started visiting our kids were younger and we preferred the monorail resorts with the Polynesian being our favorite. As they got older we started enjoying staying over at the Epcot resorts. We had stayed at the Beach Club and the Boardwalk Inn in the past. For our recent visit, we decided to give Disney's Yacht Club a try.

The Yacht Club is a great resort for older kids; they can have the freedom to roam the resort and it's mini water park; Storm Along Bay. The Yacht Club was my daughter’s choice to spend her birthday weekend. I was happy to be staying at an Epcot resort since that is my favorite park.
I find the Yacht Club to be a bit quieter than the Beach Club; perhaps most of the convention folks stay here while families with little ones stay at the Beach Club? The colors are a bit darker, but I don't mind. I like the style and it made me feel like I had been transported to a New England resort.

We had booked a Garden View room. I have to say at first I was a bit disappointed with the location. The Yacht Club is a large resort with very long hallways, but once we got a feel for the layout our room located in the farthest wing was fine. We took advantage of the exit doors located in the stairwells; much easier than walking back to the lobby. Our room looked right out into trees, but we found it to be a peaceful spot to enjoy a drink on the patio.

Since there are five in our party we had a room with a day bed. We found the room to be comfortable and we enjoyed the sailing and nautical theme of the room.

While the location is great for Epcot and Disney Hollywood Studios another draw at staying at the Yacht Club is Stormalong Bay. This mini water park is fun for all ages. I enjoyed it much more this time since the kids are older and I didn't have to keep a constant eye on them. There were poolside activities going on all afternoon and into the early evening. You can get some drinks or a bit to eat at Hurricane Hanna's which is adjacent to the pool. There is a server if you prefer to get waited on while lounging in the sun.

There are a number of dining options located in the hotel. We enjoyed a fun birthday dinner at Beaches & CreamWe also grabbed a bite to eat at the Crew's Cup Lounge; this is one of my favorite spots to get a beer and a bite while at Disney.

While our getaway was only for a weekend we made the most of staying at the Yacht Club. This Disney resort became a family favorite and we look forward to staying there again.
